Tofu with Asparagus and Mushroom

asparagus and mushroom dress by Melissa

Yup that is inspired by my favorite veggies!

I simply requested it from Melissa

and the talented fashion designer was gracious enough

to came up with it here in Pink Spilled Paint!

And for my recipe, here try it.

2 tbsp olive oil
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups 1/2 inch cubed firm tofu
200 grams asparagus, sliced into 1-inch pieces
1 cup sliced shiitake mushroom
3 tbsp oyster sauce mixed with 1/4 cup water

1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté garlic and tofu together until the tofu turns light gold.

2. Add the shiitake mushroom and the oyster sauce mixture. Leave for about 10 minutes.

3. Toss the asparagus with the tofu mushroom. It will take about 4 minutes for the asparagus to cook.

4. Transfer to a serving plate.

hmm I think a red bell pepper dress would be lovely.

How about you, what veggie dress do you have in mind right now?

Let’s IMAGINE it altogether!

I’m a fan of green beans and carrots cooked together, with a dash of butter – but I don’t look very good in orange. (Doesn’t work with my skin tone.) So… perhaps an eggplant/zucchini/squash/onion sauté? With all those colors, much could be done with a dress…

  3. Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!

  5. Hmm… Escarole. Short and sassy. Crinkles and frills. Dreaming of winter salads. 🙂

  6. I’m trying to picture a long leaf lettuce skirt. 🙂 We would have to make it bunny proof though. ha! Thank you for always lightening my day! So fun!

For about a year now i’ve been envisioning a “banana print sweater” that is yellow and covered in little brown splotches hehe : )
Not quite a vegetable but i’ve always liked fruity solutions haha

  8. That recipe sounds really good.

Now I am trying to think of a veggie dress. Sweet potato pie? (I know…it’s a dessert.) 🙂

i hope i’ll be inspired to go vegan. LOL
beyond colors i see veggie forms
but i can’t draw it yet fashionably
so for the meantime it’s in my head

Awww that’s my design. Hehe 🙂

How much is 200 grams of asparagus? I never understand what a gram is haha (Not so much a great cook. But I try haha)

    • bendedspoon Says:

      so yes!
maybe you can start a book of veggie fashion
with what they will imagine in here!
200grams is around 10pcs of small asparagus or 1 cup
the recipe is also good without mushroom in it

      • missavogue Says:

Awesome thanks! 🙂 I have small asparagus and I never know what to cook with them. But I always buy them because my boyfriend likes them. I’ll try this. 🙂

      • missavogue Says:

Oh and I’ll keep that book in mind. 🙂

        • bendedspoon Says:

          go for it now!
          sketch it and maybe collaborate
          with a cookbook author
if you want recipe with it.
Let me know if you like the idea
and I’ll introduce you to Jamie
          for your Food & Fashion
          or your Veggie Vogue!
