This is the easiest DIY, ever!

The pallet was used for my daughter’s birthday Sweets Corner — just 10 DIY steps.

First, you need a pallet — of course!

Good if you can buy at bargain price.

Better if given to you free.

Best if someone sent you goodies — in a pallet crate!

Bea6.Pallet

.

Second, lean it on the wall — that easy!

Between 1st and 2nd, remove the parts you do not want — like boards and nails.

Use hammer please!

Bea6.Pallet.Backdrop

.

Third, add table and chairs.

Mine were vintage and junky!

Bea6.Pallet.Backdrop.Table.Chair

.

Fourth, add on other props lying around the home.

A frame,  2-tier holder, and a vintage carousel horse are good for me.

Hammer not included! I used it for the nails where I hanged the frame.

Bea6.Pallet.Props

.

Fifth, make pompoms and hang them.

You will love the pallet for making it so easy to tie the pompoms.

But you have to decide beforehand how many pompoms you need — because making them can be addicting!

Bea6.Pallet.Pompoms

.

Sixth, add flowers.

No need to buy vases when you have empty beverage bottles.

Notice the trimmings? Those are pompoms scraps.

No need to throw them yet. Just scatter them on the table — because you are the boss!

Bea6.Pallet.Bottled Flowers

.

Seventh, add more flowers!

Horse charming got to offer some flowers to the Princess.

And look after her crown while still sleeping — shhh this is a surprise party that the Princess wanted us to prepare.

Bea6.Pallet.Horse Flowers

.

Eighth, don’t forget the sweets.

Because the pallet backdrop is for Sweets Corner!

Bea6.Pallet.Sweets

.

Ninth, show off the pallet backdrop.

Be sure that it is in the back 🙂

Bea6.Pallet.Sweet Corner

.

Tenth, add the sweetest.

Count the fingers — except those that form the binocular to see you.

The sweetest Princess turned six!

Bea6.Pallet.Sweetest

.

Now back to the pallet. I do not see its life ending yet.

As is, I have some more things to hang and change them as frequent as I like without worrying on nail holes.

I could paint it. Distressed it. Remove the paint. Paint it again. Whatever.

How about you, what would you do with it? Aside from throw it 🙂

There is a growing appreciation for handmade goodies, crafters and artists all throughout the world. I, for one, am a fan because I know there is much love woven on each piece.

Last June 15, I was able to check the Future Market in First United Building — thanks to the local organizer 98B COLLABoratory! Thanks for the fun-filled day! I was glad to interact with crafters and artists — couldn’t do that in malls with mass produced items. And so I am day dreaming to be part of Future Market — not only as buyer but as seller as well!

It was cool checking the cool stuff created by the cool crafters and artists. Yes, too much coolness – and warmth too with the pre-loved and vintage items!

Here are the few that I captured with my phone…

Manila

What immediately came to mind was ‘gates to hell’ — Dan Brown’s reference to Manila in his novel Inferno. And I laughed for so many reasons, including thoughts about Dan Brown 🙂

.

Art prints

The artist is a retiree from the corporate world — and so I bought two for my two girlfriends.

.

Button Magnets

Button magnets by cool ladies — and so I bought ten for my crafty daughter.

.

Whimsy Spider

Still from the cool ladies — we have live spider though at home.

.

Cloth bags

Handy cloth bags — I bought one not only to contain my purchases for the day; not only because I know it’s not easy to sit all day waiting for a customer but because…

.

Tutu Bag

it’s a happy picture 🙂

.

Map Art

Art in the map — I bought the one with ‘imagine’  on the hat because I like the old map, the ink, and the word!

.

UVLA

Cool robotins from UVLA but I didn’t bring one home with me — my boys only say cooooool for Ironman and Transformers.

.
Vintage tray

This tray is what I took from UVLA — aside from the bits of rust I gave in for ‘Raindrops on roses…’ and other simple things.

.

Collector's items

There were collector’s items such as old magazines, old coins…

.

Vintage bottles

old bottles…

.

Vintage Radio

vintage radio and I’m not sure what…

.

Vintage books

Vintage books — I bought Jose Rizal (His Exile) copyright 1958 for Php20.00 (half dollar). And bought too Huling Hudhud with interesting photos and poems written in Filipino.

.

Bargain Books

And there were pre-loved books and these two at Php49.00 and Php99.00 were good reasons enough to bring home. And to share some nuggets (not the mc nuggets because Michael Pollan won’t like it):

“It’s not food if it arrived through the window of your car.” – from Food Rules.

“The wearer best knows where the shoe pinches.” – from The Quotable Walker.

.

Black & White Manila

Framed black and white photos of everything Manila. I was tempted to buy the photo of City Hall’s clock because I passed by it every day of my college years going to Intramuros but instead decided to take the shot myself — getting personal.

.

Hey Kessy

Hey Kessy (seller of washi tapes) was there but unfortunately the ‘tape measure’ print I’m looking for is not available — it should be my little surprise for my fashionista daughter who tries her hand on sewing machine.

.

Spiked Bag

And so I bought this spiked cloth bag for my daughter. How each cone was formed, stitched, and attached to the bag is awesome — I know it is awesome because my daughter shrieked when she saw it!

.

Spiked bags by worm

Cool spiked bags in different colors by Clint of W.O.R.M.S. – Wearing One Really Makes Sense.

.

Yoga Necklace

Artwheel has sculptures and accessories made of wires. The yoga man came home with me — he can do sun salutation and other poses because he is wired to do so 🙂

.

Wrecked shorts

Wrecked shorts — no need to bring one home. My daughter has wrecked more than enough. I think it’s about time that she sells too 🙂

.

Manila the city

The best part of the day was when I joined this group by Project Manila and made something of my own to be part of…

.

labyrinth

this labyrinth. It was good. Walking around here. Connecting to oneself. Even for a few moments.

.

Bent and perfect

You are perfect! Believe me, perfect does not necessarily equate to flawless 🙂

Dear Hubby

03/24/2013

Dear Hubby,

Last year you asked me if I wanted an ipad and I said no because I have a laptop already. But still you bought me one because you knew I will like it.

And true enough I liked it! It’s handy and I can use it while lying in bed. That is if I’m not yet off to dreamland the moment my back touched the bed.

This year you asked me if I wanted an iPhone or Note 2 and I said no because the phone you gave me still works. But still you gave me one because you knew I will like it.

And true enough I liked it! It’s handy and helped me in my current project. I was able to sketch-erase-sketch an organizational chart, among others.

And so I realized that as much as it is important that you should know what your wifey like — like a vintage aqua Volkswagen van (wink wink) it is also important for me to appreciate the gift you feel is important.

Of course I do appreciate them all my techie hubby! I love how you knew I needed something which I didn’t ask for because I am a DIY-junky-vintagey wifey!

And so for your birthday we are giving you something which you might not want but trust me you will love this because…we do!

Boys Fishing by L. Mirabueno

Boys Fishing
by L. Mirabueno

Believe me this is priceless because you will remember the times the boys gone fishing with you. Yes, I know they’re quiet in the painting unlike in real life where they scared the fish off so you won’t catch anything! But then, it can still come true one of these days, lol!

.

DaddysBirthday2013.1

Believe me this is priceless because one day you will remember how your artsy daughters stayed late to finish painting this just for you!

So love it, love it because we love you, love you!

Love,

wifey

.

P.S. Your birthday wish for wisdom and prayer of thankfulness to God is a gift itself.

And yes, the greatest gift is already given to us. Not every one may want Him but God the Father knew that we all need Him.

.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. – 1Corinthians 12:4-6

Another artsy bonding time!

Last Saturday the kiddos and I were in Jaime Velasquez Park, Salcedo Village for the Art In The Park 2013.

My eldest daughter and I were excited on the event. She’s excited enough to invite her two best friends with us. And I am excited too that I reminded myself of the policy, “No buying until I sleep over it for at least a fortnight.”

And so that meant NO BUYING because the event is only for one day! And so that meant bringing in extra towel lest I drool over the inspiring lovely fantastic artsy creations of the artists!

True enough I started to drool on the first booth. Woot! Woot! There was a mosaic owl mirror which could be a whimsical addition to my wall mirrors. But sorry it wasn’t the fortnight yet. Owleave you then, bye.

We haven’t gone far when I drooled again on the potters’ area. I wantttt Joey de Castro’s jumbo cup and saucer! I wanttt Mia Casal’s clay necklace and ring! I wantttt Jon and Tessy Pettyjohn’s tea set! But sorry it wasn’t the fortnight yet. Huhuhu — stop claying you’re a big girl now, okay?

Do I have to mention that the towel was quite wet already when my heart gone giddy yap giddy yap? No, I don’t think there’s a need to mention the wet towel but I have to mention that I shrieked for the horse taka – the same time my youngest shrieked for the rag doll! But sorry it wasn’t the fortnight yet. Poor baby but she knew she’ll have it one of these days – we will make one.

And so you asked, “Where are the photos of these drool worthy things?”

And I replied, “Sorry I was busy wiping.”

But here are some of the photos of other lovely creations.

No, he is not my kiddos’ granddad. He is Pete Jimenez, the artist whose sculptures was wow worthy. Wow worthy enough that we had seen SOLD SOLD SOLD on empty platforms!

Here’s one of his creations for the women. The cheapest ‘Her Mess’ bag but as of our stay it wasn’t sold yet. Could it be snatched by a bag lover should its title was ‘Her Miss’?

My misses – the ones I haven’t bought? But there will be Art In The Park next year — and it’s more than a fortnight by then!

Thank you so much to the Art In The Park organizers and artists — it was another memorable bonding time for the family!

Will You?

02/17/2013

Will you understand me?

It’s okay if you don’t — at all times.

Because I do not understand myself as well — at all times.

Sometimes I go crazy. Sometimes crazier.

What I don’t understand is I sometimes prefer the crazier me.

Maybe my Creator prefers the same too. Who knows.

He knows.

Will you marry me?

It’s okay if you don’t — I’m married already.

That is not actually a question. It’s the topic in today’s Sunday service.

Well maybe it’s a question.

The important foundations of marriage were discussed — 5 C’s.

Covenant. Communication. Chemistry. Character. Christ.

I would say that if you only take Christ — He is the strongest foundation there is.

Will you?

I take this question with me.

Will you now do that chairs stacked in the garage? Is that my conscience whispering?

Got to move then! And so out the messy chairs — red leather seats torn and removed.

Red Chair.Repaint

These chairs have been repainted and reupholstered twice. That’s a different story.

What I’ll share today is I need to do this fast because my conscience might not make me sleep. Lol!

And so no more reupholstering. I just grabbed the spray paint, brush, and poster paints.

And quickly here it is.

Red Chair.Repainted

Just like that. It’s done!

Oh the other chair? It has a different question of course.

I will post it next time because I have yet to decide if I’ll include a marriage story with it. Lol!

Red Chair.Will you

Will you please share what’s your “WILL YOU?”

No you may not direct the question to me.

You want to ask God, “Will you…?”?

Go ahead please.

BUY, PICK, LUST!

Every day I am confronted in the road by screaming billboards. Reminding me that I have yet to own the latest in fashion and technology; that I have yet to achieve the silkiest skin and society’s dream body; that their cake is chocolatier and the chicken is crispier.

It made me breathe less or shall I say that my breathing is heavier, harder  — “Chocolate cake or dream body? Latest in fashion or crispy chicken?” It’s hard to satisfy advertisers at the same time — more so if you are not at all interested but somehow compelled to want it.

I dream of regular road travels that will leave me breathless of nature’s beauty and abundance. And today I want to thank Artist Stephen Glassman for his dream of putting a crack in the urban skyline and allow us to take a breath despite the traffic.

Urban Air will transform existing old urban billboards to breathing spaces with suspended bamboo gardens.

To make this come true at least $100,000.00 pledges is needed — and then the project will be funded. Please check the team behind the project in their  KickStarter page.

I can’t wait to see similar project here in the Philippines.

I can’t wait to see a whispering billboard reminding me to BREATHE, PRAISE, LOVE.

.

I thank God that I can create things on times when I felt dwarfed by challenges and can’t seem to hear the singing birds.

scrap wood to decor to table

I meant to make a table out of this scrap wood but for now it will serve as a reminder that I do not need to wait for that future time to serve a purpose – that right now, in whatever state I am, I can serve a purpose, that I have a purpose, that I may be the purpose.

And so while mommy was busy painting seeds of hope, my little girl joined me. She painted her Snow White in the tray. Wouldn’t the dwarfs be happy with that – even Grumpy?

scrap wood to tray

I may be the purpose. To make me understand that if the seven dwarfs had Snow White, I have Jesus – who will wash me whiter than snow. This is true. Not a fairy tale.

But that is not to say that I don’t believe in fairy tale – especially if the fairy is my daughter peeking through the gate made of scrap wood 🙂

Wish now and it will come true!

Fairy Beatrice

Do I hear you wishing for more fabulous repurposed scrap wood? Close your eyes…wishy, wishy, wishy, wonderful you – your wish now come true! Now open your eyes in Funky Junk Interiors world!

If scrap woods can be made for different purposes, ever wonder why we are made? Let’s hear it and not forget that we are loved!

Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

I Am A Heartist

01/11/2012

I am now declaring that I am an artist!

I am an artist because I see extraordinary in an ordinary.

I am an artist because I see beyond the defined purpose of things.

I am an artist because I appreciate each supply chain — tracing back to the Ultimate Source.

I am an artist because I am in love each time I create things — my heart actually giggles!

I am an artist because my kiddos are artists – see some of their lovely works! Hmm it runs in the blood!

Self-portrait of my 13-year old daughter. She got her Dad's blood.

My precious daughter. Don't tell me she's not as cute as the portrait.

'Mom & Dad' by my 4-year old daughter. She got her Mom's blood.

I am an artist because my hubby is a great sculpture – my kiddos love his clay dinosaurs! And I love our dining chairs because he repaired and painted them! Hmm it runs in the heart!

I am an artist because I am a child of the Master Artist who created the sky – with changing hues!

Extraordinary wire heart by me! Extraordinary child by God!

I understand that most of us are not comfortable to call ourselves an artist just because our creations are not at par with other artists but does it not matter that God, The Master Artist, is delighted with the beauty that we have created?

The good news is, God is not only an artist — He is also an evaluator and curator – and a Master at those! He appreciates beyond what is seen and heard. He knows genuine Art of Forgiveness, Art of Caring, Art of Giving and all art of the hearts.

I don’t have a shop.

I don’t have a gallery.

Maybe you too.

But we have a home where we showcase kiddos art or table setting or organized chaos.

We have a heart where we showcase love, forgiveness, faith, and much more.

Not comfortable being called an artist? Oh well, let’s call ourselves HEARTIST!

He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as craftsmen, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers–all of them master craftsmen and designers. – Exodus 35:35

Day 6: Connect

10/06/2011

We are happiest when we are connected

with people

with life

with the Source of Life.

Technology made it possible for us

to connect as people

to connect with life beyond where we are

to even connect with the Source of Life

when we understand the person

when we understand where the person is coming from

when we understand the Word.

Please click for other days.

It’s Day 6 of Feeling Good! Millions are sad for the death of Steve Jobs. Millions are sad because Steve Jobs succeeded in making others feel good. He offered cool innovations and designs just  because — “A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.” He succeeded in connecting with the heart of people — he made them want what he offered!

No, I am not feeling good because of Steve Jobs death. I am feeling good because there are people like him who never give up and hungry to make things better.

Technology, much is said about it but it need not separate us from God.

Touch screen.

Touch people.

Connect.

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,

Juice cartons now empty

Don’t throw it away Mommy

We will have a happy day

Crafting fun memories for the family!

Juice cartons now empty

Enjoyed the apple, orange and cranberry

Now let’s make something pretty

Painted carton houses maybe?

For The Gooseberry Garden on OBJECT.

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE EMPTY JUICE CARTONS WREATH

1. First, drink all the juice inside otherwise it will be too heavy for the wreath!

empty juice cartons

2. Next, paint the empty cartons with any color that you want for the house. Hey, it’s best to experiment painting in cartons than in real houses!

painted houses by kiddos and me!

3. Next next, cut the branches in your neighbor’s tree — form it in circle and attach the painted houses.

empty juice cartons wreath!

4. Next to next next, make 2 sets — 1 for your neighbor where you got the branches!

Now Do It Yourself and have fun! If I can breath then I can wreath — so can you!

Psssst, this empty juice cartons wreath will have more fun at Nester’s Wreath Party!

World peace begins at home — with empty juice cartons! Don’t you think so?

MORIOLOGIST is a hired mourner.

Yes you may not be able to buy love but you can pay a MORIOLOGIST to wail more than the family members can. They will even crawl on the floor while they are wailing!

This may sound weird but how does it differ from the paid ‘fans’ who will applaud the paying performer? Yay!

While here, why don’t we check the stylish coffins and guess what the deceased love?

Hello!

Too bag!

Bye! Vroom!

And what about the epitaph?

Mine could be:

Here lies bendedspoon
Flesh will rot, funny bones will not!

or

Here lies bendedspoon
Finally she’s deep!

or

In memory of bendedspoon
She’s down to earth.

How about you? Seriously, while you can.

L is for Lalala

04/14/2011

LALALA we will have some fun today for I am bringing you the L of poetry — LIMERICK!

I only learned about Limerick last month after more than 3 decades of existence here on earth!  Thanks to Madeleine where I stumbled upon it!

What is a Limerick?

A limerick (is):

  1. is five lines long,
  2. is based on the rhythm “da-da-DAH” (anapest meter)
  3. has two different rhymes.
  4. Lines 1, 2, and 5 have three of those da-da-DAH “feet,” and rhyme with each other.
  5. Lines 3 and 4 have two, and rhyme with each other.
So the basic form is:

da da DAH / da da DAH / da da BING
da da DAH / da da DAH / da da DING
da da DAH / da da BAM
da da DAH / da da WHAM
da da DAH / da da DAH / da da PING

I understand the rhyme but I don’t totally understand the rhythm. I go duh! But then that won’t stop me from trying and shaming myself because it’s fun! Anyone who wants to teach me and correct my 3 Limerick attempts is most welcome and appreciated — have mercy, teach me please!

Now here are the 3 Limericks.

( 1)
A woman is hysterical
Her man turned into a jackal,
How come when they vowed
No hurting allowed,
Love is no longer magical.

(2)
The man jumped out of the window
Good that the house is bungalow,
The cat laughed out loud
Oh what a coward,
He’s afraid of his own shadow!

(3)
Today I decided to be happy
I won’t snap on anybody,
Lalala good day
It is our payday,
Can I have pie and green tea frappe?

Now enter the fun part. In the comment please come up with your own Limerick using any of the 1st line of the 3 Limericks. Please try, please please please! And enjoy!

We’re not yet done with LALALA because I am sharing with you a very special award from Luna — Luna’s Soul Award 2011! If you have not yet met Luna please check my J is for Jejune post. You will respect this woman with a beautiful soul.

Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

I’m clapping for you who are reading this! I’m so happy that you are well today!

We clap to show our appreciation and amusement. We usually do it for others but it’s good to clap for ourselves too. See what it can do to you by clapping the moment you wake up and say your praise or declare that, “I will have a wonderful day today! I will make it happen!”

Not all though is happy to see you clapping. If this makes you uneasy then practice one hand clapping which now brings us to the age-old question, “What is the sound of one hand clapping?”

Now please allow me to clap in appreciation for a wonderful C blessing — Creative Blog Award!

Thank you so much Deirdra of A Storybook World! Deirdra is a professional writer and illustrator and looks like she is a fairy too — see her fairy wings!

Oh God I feel so C today — CONTENTED. Far from what I felt a few years ago…

When I was a little miss
I had only one Sunday dress
Its color is yellow
And I love it so
Each Sunday I was excited
Smiling as I get dressed
I felt like a princess
With my yellow dress
When I turned into a woman
I had more clothes than some
But funny how I felt less
Stressed and depressed
Having more isn’t being more
If inside I felt so poor.

Can we now CHEER UP and CLAP? One or two hands, it’s good for us!

How lucky could I get? Well, I am nominated for the Stylish Blogger Award by a very talented and stylish woman — Linda Lewis of Lulu’s Musings!

Want to eat in style? Check her special table settings!

Want to wear stylish handmade and handwoven? Check her Designs Gallery!

Want to be in style? Check her lovely hair and smile!

Now back to why I am stylish, I’m confused too because I consider myself as styleless, not stylish!

But hey, a nomination is a nomination so I’m accepting it oh so graciously!

With the acceptance of the nomination I am supposed to share 7 things about myself so here they are.

styleless

1. My sole’s best friend is a flat glittered red crocs shoes. And my soul’s best friend is God!

2. I love stones and I wear beach stones earrings. Never mind if they’re not of the same shape!

3. I make bottle caps necklaces for my kiddos.  And mine too!

4. I enjoy pun and we paint it in canvass bags. And proudly use it!

5. My non-living best friends are books. It can deliver a sermon without hurting me!

6. I love smelling my hubby and kiddos’ armpits. One of the miracles of love!

7. My heart smiles on things that others consider ordinary or of no value. Drift woods, bended spoons, colored pens make me oh so happy!

So there’s my 7!  And Oh yes, I am not forgetting my 2 nominees, my 2 stylish and fantastic blog friends — drum roll please!

1. Max. My dog friend over at Creativity to the Max. It has dyed its hair purple and owns an equally stylish human named Judy! Max can you squeal one of your human’s life secrets?

2.  Alan. You remember the commercial of Oreo cookies where the big bro dunk the cookie in the glass of milk and the kiddo used a sippy cup? He was behind it! Alan, what’s your role in there again? Come on tell us while I chow my Oreo and savor the nomination!

And I am nominating everyone for best in smile!  You deserve the best smile so run to the mirror now!

Tongue Twisted

01/24/2011

I open my mouth

no rules and regulations

think law of karma.

For Jingle Poetry on rules, regulations, and laws.

For my kiddos who love Dr. Seuss.

I blog, bespeak, bleed

I bite, burp, bow, bless, become

I build, blossom, bloom.

For my blog friends  (humans and dog Max) who try to understand me, feed me and inspire me. You made me twist and shout with thanks!

Blessing Tree

12/10/2010

Come end of year we make a blessing tree and hang the things that we are thankful for during the entire year — some of it, otherwise, I need a very big tree!

This year here’s our blessing tree.

Blessing Tree

Here’s one of the things that my son is thankful for.

Here’s one from my daughter.

And here’s one of mine.

Start writing your blessings now and hang it on the blessing tree! Just grab a tree branch, put it in a vase and hang your blessings!

Now tell me how can we not thank God the whole year?

🙂
